Research has shown that it is hereditary/genetically predetermined process, which responds to external stimuli, essentially male hormones. Testosterone is converted to dihydrotestosterone (DHT) by an enzyme 5α reductase. It is DHT that acts on hair follicles in the regions which are susceptible to androgenic alopecia. It appears that androgenic alopecia is under the control of a single dominant sex linked autosomal gene.

Nowadays the onset of baldness occurs at much early age than in father. This probably suggests role of many other factors in addition to genetics. The stressful competitive life style and altered dietary habits have been blamed for this.

The follicles in the affected areas gradually shrink, resulting in fine and lighter growth, ultimately this leads to complete cessation of growth of hair.

For men, viagra tablet weight the baldness follows a specific pattern. Even in advanced cases of baldness, it is rare for most men to lose the area in back and sides of scalp (horseshoe hair bearing area) (figure 5). This is because the hair in these areas are genetically said to be resistant to the balding effect of male hormone that is they will remain unaffected permanently. This is called donor dominance

Donor dominance means the hairs retain the characteristic feature of being resistant to balding effect of male hormones even after they have been transplanted to the new (recipient) site.

Hair transplant has become now valid and established due to this trait of hair, giving permanent and natural results.
